Letters & Questions

Letter writing and posing suitable delving questions are extremely useful ways of enabling you to find out the understanding and commitment to the rivers access issue.

June 2007

New letter to ask why nothing has been done.. especially as now the DEFRA consultation re coastal access has been launched and it appears that access to the coast will be dealt with by legislation...We need to stop this great disparity NOW between access to land and inland waters!

How about this letter ... remember to ask voluntary access agreements are not working and the Environment Agency 's recent work has proven (why they needed to do this when they have not worked for nearly 50 years) so what comprehensive solution are the Government now going to suggest … We suggest that legislation is the only way forward.  There is legislation for land.. soon to be legislation for coastal access .. so what about inland waters?

During the election campaign we were made aware that many of the campaign supporters were asking the candidates about their views on the river access situation when them met with them.  This was happening on doorsteps all over the country.  These questions need to be followed up with a letter and/or a visit to your MPs surgery to explain the situation further and to obtain greater understanding and support for a change in the rivers access situation.

If you did not have the opportunity to meet the candidate (and now your MP) write to them anyway as whether they are a new MP or a returning MP they need to be made aware that this is a real issue to the 2 million plus canoeists and river users.

Copies of suggested letters and questions are included below.  We will add to these as the campaign develops and other issues occur.

Please let us know how you get on. We CAN and WILL make a difference.
